Careful selection of the unit provided and excellent example of a grease bearing on almost mint condition.



It got the Lenco's Rock Maple plinth for a base line comparoson. Same elements, plinth, tonearm cartridge.


The Rock Maple was doubled and brass weights added to the interior.


Finally the Onyx came home to the Garrard. After all Sugano voiced them on such a table.
And then came slate...


Water jet cut slate and laser cut 304 stainless layers.


I wanted a brace for the bearing house and nobody was including such in a slate. By the time I drew a brace I thought I might was well keep going...


I had to re voice the set up considerably. The 4" thick maple sounded really good, with plenty of colour and life. The slate sounded dead at first.


Then I got the setup right and spacial information was unsurpassed as was bass and natural treble. Truly remarkable, like going from the Urushi to a stone body. Now I have to address the finishing. That's the real work...
